So, overall, if you like novelty candy that is not too sweet, I’d recommend the CO2 Candy. After about 30 minutes of shaking it around it finally dissolved and did flavor the water, but it wasn’t worth the effort. I thought since it sort of fizzes it might work as a flavoring for bottled water so I dropped a cherry CO2 Candy into a bottled water to see what happened. A coworker of mine tried them and said they were just OK, but he kept coming back to get more, so he must have thought they were pretty good. It’s not a bad taste, just a different taste. It has an odd, almost bitter taste to it – maybe because of the CO2? I’m not sure. I figured out what candy they remind me of after I had a few – they remind me of the taste of the center of Zotz candy (anyone remember those?). The candies aren’t overly sweet, which at first made me think they tasted bad, but the more candy I had, the more I got used to them and grew to like them. It’s not a crazy fizzing or bubbling, it’s just a barely perceptible fizz. The flavor just barely hits you and it tingles just a bit on your tongue. When you first put one in your mouth, they are a little odd tasting and feeling. One tin hold 0.68 oz or about 75 candies. CO2 Candy comes in three “sparkling” flavors – Cherry, Orange, and Lemon-Lime and come in those popular tins that so many candy come in nowadays. The candy itself is the “pressed-powder” variety like SweetTarts, PEZ, and Smarties (US). They are small UFO-shaped candies, a little smaller than an M&M. The only carbonated/CO2 candy I could think of was Pop Rocks and when I first saw these, I knew they weren’t like Pop Rocks. Zotz are a great way to surprise your friends with a candy that creates for an experience that exceeds any and all expectations. These are some interesting candies. When the chemical mixes with your saliva a reaction takes place and when you bite into the candy you are letting the puddle of that chemical reaction take place on your tongue. There is a lot more fizzy chemical in there than you think and the abundance of it makes the taste overwhelmingly unpleasant and I believe it is a waste of a good piece of candy. Unless you want an explosion of acidic tasting fizz filling your mouth, resist the urge to bite into the candy. I was so pleasantly surprised with this Zotz candy, but I do have a warning for you. I imagined that there was some sort of fan inside the candy blowing the little sugars into my mouth they continued pouring out for minutes! Upon looking it through the technological wizardry of the boundless internet I was surprised to find out that these Zotz weren’t the new school candy I expected, I was about to delve into a retro candy that was enjoyed before my time in the 1980s.Īs soon as this little candy hit my tongue I felt a shabam of tang and as I waited patiently I tasted a strange flavor that soon turned sweet and was enhanced as the little sour fizzy sugars began shooting out of the little hole on the side of the candy. The package looks quite generic, each individually wrapped piece of hard candy simply says “Zotz Grape” or lemon, cherry, apple, watermelon or orange. I had never heard of this Zotz candy before so I was a bit wary at first glance.
